In this course I make the case for mental health and well-being in the legal profession. The first part of this course is devoted to the current landscape of and initiatives designed to promote well-being. I will share my own decades-long journey with mental illness and how I take care of myself. I offer suggestions on how members of the profession can practice self-care and prioritize their well-being.
In the second part of this course, I examine what happens when a Big Law partner who lives with bipolar disorder stops taking his medication and unravels in the midst of high stakes class action litigation.
Finally, I will share and discuss instances where legal employers have prioritized employee well-being without compromising productivity and profits.
