Kevin Spencer, Esq., a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP, focuses his practice on tax controversy and litigation issues, and represents clients in disputes before the U.S. Tax Court, U.S. District Courts, U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals, the Internal Revenue Service Appeals and Examination Divisions, and the Internal Revenue Service National Office in a number of matters, including the treatment of credit card fees, interchange, and rewards programs, original issue discount, estate tax, changes in methods of accounting, leveraged leases, and tax advantaged transactions, including “LILO” and “SILO” transactions. From 2002 to 2004, Mr. Spencer clerked for the Honorable Robert P. Ruwe of the U.S. Tax Court. He is a frequent writer and lecturer on tax controversy and litigation issues, and an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center.
