Alex van der Wolk is the co-chair of Morrison & Foerster’s Global Privacy & Data Security Practice. He advises global companies on their most complex data protection strategy and compliance governing all aspects of information management.
With more than a decade of experience, Mr. van der Wolk helps clients develop privacy strategies for digital transformations, industrial IoT, telematics, Big Data, commercial and marketing programs, and data analytics. Mr. van der Wolk has particular experience assisting clients with structuring their approach to data privacy in specialized areas such as health-tech, agro-tech and ad-tech. Clients praise Mr. van der Wolk for his pragmatism and ability to devise practical privacy solutions for complex business efforts and initiatives.
In addition, Mr. van der Wolk is often called upon to head crisis management teams for clients facing investigations by data protection authorities, as well as responding to cybersecurity incidents. Mr. van der Wolk was also one of the first in Europe to help companies set up Binding Corporate Rules (BCRs) and has developed a longstanding and proven track record in assisting companies to obtain regulatory approval for the BCRs since.
Mr. van der Wolk received an LL.M. from Columbia University and a postgraduate degree in ICT law from the University of Nijmegen. He earned his undergraduate and Master’s degree in Law from the University of Amsterdam. Mr. van der Wolk is a frequent speaker at international data privacy conferences, including IAPP, and is a guest lecturer at the Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology, and Society of Tilburg University, and at the University of Amsterdam.
